The recall was published on December 15, 2022, by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) under Recall Number 23068. The importer is Sundance Spas Inc., which also does business as Jacuzzi Hot Tubs, of Chino, California. The products were manufactured in Mexico. Approximately 23,700 units were sold in the United States, in addition to about 5,400 in Canada and about 40 in Mexico.
Affected Products
The recalled products are Jacuzzi brand hot tubs from the J-200, J-300, J-400, and J-500 collections, and Sundance Spas brand spas from the 680, 780, 880, and 980 series. The model number and serial number are engraved into a silver plate located in the equipment bay of the hot tub. Consumers can enter the serial number into the recall links at www.sundancespas.com/en-us/recall.html or www.jacuzzi.com/en-us/recall.html to identify whether their hot tub contains the recalled sensor. The hot tubs were sold by authorized Sundance Spas or Jacuzzi Hot Tubs dealers nationwide from July 2021 through December 2022, with prices ranging from $6,500 to $30,000.
Hazard Information
The temperature sensor in the recalled hot tubs can relay incorrect water temperatures and cause the water to be hotter than the set temperature. This poses injury (heat stroke) and thermal burn hazards. Sundance Spas has received 185 reports of inaccurate temperature readings. No injuries have been reported.
Consumer Action Required
Consumers should use an accurate external thermometer to confirm the water temperature is no higher than 104 degrees Fahrenheit prior to entering the hot tub to prevent injuries and burns. Consumers should not enter the recalled hot tubs if the external thermometer temperature reads higher than 104 degrees. Consumers should contact a local authorized Jacuzzi dealer at www.jacuzzi.com/en-us/find-a-dealer/ for Jacuzzi brands, or a Sundance Spas dealer at www.sundancespas.com/en-us/find-a-dealer/ for Sundance Spas brands, to schedule a free repair. Sundance Spas and Jacuzzi Hot Tub are contacting all known purchasers directly.
Official Remedy
The official remedy is a free repair. Consumers are instructed to schedule an appointment with an authorized dealer to have the temperature sensor replaced at no cost.
