1. Recall Summary
On June 13, 2024, a recall was announced for magnetic chess games sold exclusively on Temu.com. The recall was issued due to a violation of the mandatory federal toy magnet regulation. The products were distributed by Outad Good Life Ltd., of China, and sold online from December 2023 through February 2024 for about $8. Approximately 2,600 units are affected.

2. Affected Products
The recalled product is identified as a “1 Set Puzzle ‘Magnetic’, ‘Magnetism’, or ‘Magnetism Intelligence Strategy Game’ Magnetic Battle Chess Game.” The game is sold in a blue box with the words “Magnetic,” “Magnetism,” or “Magnetism Intelligence Strategy Game” printed on the front. The set includes approximately 20 loose, small, spherical magnet stones that are separable and have a strong magnetic flux. Additional contents include a string, a plastic storage tray with sponge lining, and instructions for play. No model numbers or UPCs are specified in the recall notice.

3. Hazard Information
The recalled magnetic chess games violate the mandatory federal toy magnet regulation. The set contains one or more magnets that fit within CPSC’s small parts cylinder, and the magnets are stronger than permitted. When high-powered magnets are swallowed, the ingested magnets can attract each other or another metal object and become lodged in the digestive system. This can result in perforations, twisting and/or blockage of the intestines, infection, blood poisoning, and death. As of the recall date, no injuries have been reported in connection with this specific product. However, CPSC estimates that 2,400 magnet ingestions were treated in hospital emergency departments from 2017 through 2021, and CPSC is aware of seven deaths since 2005 involving the ingestion of hazardous magnets, including two outside of the United States.

4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should stop using the recalled magnetic chess games immediately. The games must be taken away from children. Consumers should contact Outad Good Life for instructions on how to receive a full refund. Alternatively, consumers can visit their Temu account, find the relevant order in “Your Orders,” and click on the “Return/Refund” button. Detailed instructions on the Return and Refund Policy page on Temu.com should be followed to receive a return shipping label to send back the recalled products for free. Outad Good Life is notifying all known purchasers directly.

5. Official Remedy
The official remedy for this recall is a full refund. Consumers are instructed to return the recalled product using the provided return shipping label. Upon receipt of the returned product, Outad Good Life will issue a full refund.
