On August 4, 2022, Makita U.S.A. Inc., of La Mirada, California, initiated a recall of approximately 2,600 cordless hedge trimmers. – Model XHU08T: Serial numbers 17636Y through 17671Y, 18684Y through 18839Y.

The recalled trimmers were sold at home improvement stores, hardware stores, and other independent outdoor power equipment stores nationwide, as well as online at HomeDepot.com and Amazon.com. They were sold from February 2022 through June 2022, with a retail price between $260 and $420. The products were manufactured in China.

3. Hazard Information
The hazard identified in the recall notice is that the teal-colored guard on the recalled hedge trimmer’s shear blade is missing. This missing guard poses a laceration hazard to users. No injuries or incidents related to this hazard had been reported at the time the recall notice was published.

4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers who own one of the recalled cordless hedge trimmers are instructed to immediately stop using the product. Consumers should then contact Makita U.S.A. Inc. to arrange for a free repair. Makita will provide consumers with a merchandise return label to ship the trimmer back to the firm. After the repair is completed, the firm will return the repaired trimmer to the consumer.
