1. Recall Summary

On March 16, 2023, a recall was announced for Sunbeam Queen Size Heated Blankets. The recall was distributed by Star Elite Inc., of Canada. The recall was initiated due to the blankets presenting a fire and burn hazard. The firm received 13 reports of the blankets overheating. No injuries have been reported. The recall involves approximately 43,000 units in the United States and an additional 15,000 units sold in Canada.

2. Affected Products

The recall specifically involves the Sunbeam Queen Size Heated Blanket, model number 32810027. The blankets were sold with detachable controllers. The available colors for the recalled blankets are: beige, ivory, light green, dark blue, light blue, burgundy, dark gray, light gray, and gray violet. The Sunbeam logo and the model number 32810027 are printed on the wash label affixed to the blanket. The blankets were manufactured in China. The blankets were sold online at Amazon.com and at small independent stores nationwide from September 2022 through January 2023 for approximately $120.

3. Hazard Information

The recalled heated blankets can overheat. This condition poses fire and burn hazards to consumers. The firm, Star Elite Inc., has received 13 reports of the blankets overheating. No injuries have been reported in connection with this hazard.

4. Consumer Action Required

Consumers should immediately stop using and unplug the recalled blankets. Consumers must then contact Star Elite for a full refund. As part of the remedy process, consumers will be asked to complete the online recall registration form available at www.productrecall.sunbeamhome.com. After completing the registration, consumers are instructed to destroy the blanket by cutting the power cord at the plug. Consumers must also mark an “X” with a permanent marker on the wash label of the blanket. Finally, consumers are required to send the recalling firm a photo of the destroyed blanket to verify the destruction.

5. Official Remedy

The official remedy for this recall is a full refund. Consumers who follow the instructions to register the recall, destroy the blanket, and submit a photo of the destroyed blanket will receive a full refund from Star Elite Inc.
