1. Recall Summary
Moen Incorporated, of North Olmsted, Ohio, is recalling the Flo Smart Water Monitor Lithium-Ion Battery Back-Ups. This recall involves only the optional battery back-up accessory, not the Flo Smart Water Monitor and Shutoff device itself. The recall was initiated due to a fire hazard associated with the battery back-up. The recall notice was published on April 13, 2023.

2. Affected Products
The recalled product is the Flo Smart Water Monitor Lithium-Ion Battery Back-Up, model number 920-001. This device was an optional add-on accessory purchased separately to extend certain features of the Moen Flo Smart Water Monitor and Shutoff during a power disruption. The recalled battery back-up is a dark gray rectangular unit. It has the FLO logo printed on the lower right-hand side. A sticker showing the status of the light on the battery is printed on the lower left-hand side, along with the model number 920-001. Approximately 10,000 units were sold in the United States, and about 14 units were sold in Canada. The units were sold at Lowe’s, The Home Depot, and other stores nationwide, as well as online at Amazon.com, from August 2019 through November 2022 for about $250. The product was manufactured in China.

3. Hazard Information
The lithium-ion battery back-up can overheat, posing a fire hazard. As of the date of the recall notice, there have been three reports of backup batteries that have overheated and caught fire. No injuries have been reported, but minor property damage has been reported.

4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately unplug and stop using their recalled battery back-up. Consumers must then contact Moen for instructions to disable their battery back-up before disposing of the unit. Disposal must be in accordance with applicable laws for the disposal of lithium-ion batteries.

5. Official Remedy
The official remedy offered by Moen is a refund. Consumers who follow the instructions to disable and dispose of the recalled battery back-up will receive a refund.
