1. Recall Summary
On August 31, 2023, Apollo Imports Inc., of Newark, Delaware, initiated a voluntary recall of approximately 3,900 Apollo Phantom Electric Scooters. The recall was published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) under Recall Number 23270. The recall involves the Apollo Phantom V1, V2, and 60V Electric Scooter models. The reason for the recall is that the bolt connecting the stem of the scooter to the front suspension and wheel assembly can come loose, posing fall and injury hazards to the user.
2. Affected Products
The recall includes the Apollo Phantom V1, V2, and 60V Electric Scooter models. The scooter has one stem bolt that connects the stem of the scooter with the front suspension and wheel assembly. The word “Apollo” is printed on the stem of the scooter. “Apollo Phantom” is displayed on the rear left side of the grip tape on the deck of the scooter. “Apollo Phantom” is also listed on the bottom of the scooter with the model year. The scooters were sold at various online retailers including Apolloscooters.com, Fluidfreeride.com, Justride.com, Adventuresportsusa.com, and Allelectricmotion.com from June 2021 through May 2023. The retail price was between $2,000 and $2,500. The scooters were manufactured in China.
3. Hazard Information
The hazard identified in the recall notice is that the bolt on the electric scooter can come loose, causing the suspension and wheel assembly to separate. This poses fall and injury hazards to the consumer. The firm has received seven reports of the bolt breaking, resulting in the stem detaching or loosening. These incidents have resulted in three reported injuries, including bruising, cuts, and abrasions.
4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled scooters. Consumers should contact Apollo for a free replacement bolt to repair the scooter. The firm will send instructions with a video link demonstrating how consumers can install the new bolt on their scooter at home. Apollo will also make its servicing and partner locations available to any customers to have the bolt replaced or tightened free of charge. Apollo is contacting all known purchasers directly.
5. Official Remedy
The official remedy for this recall is a repair. Apollo is providing a free replacement bolt to consumers. The firm will provide instructions and a video link for home installation. Alternatively, consumers may bring their scooter to an Apollo servicing or partner location to have the bolt replaced or tightened free of charge.
