1. Recall Summary
Fisher-Price Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has issued a recall for Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway Troublesome Truck & Crates and Troublesome Truck & Paint toys. The recall was announced on October 19, 2023. The recall involves approximately 21,000 units in the United States and an additional 400 units sold in Canada. The recall was initiated due to a risk of choking and magnet ingestion hazards associated with the product.
2. Affected Products
The recall specifically covers two push-along wooden train car models designed to resemble the “Troublesome Trucks” characters from the Thomas & Friends series.
– Troublesome Truck & Crates (Model Number HBJ89): This is a black and gray train car with cargo consisting of brown crates.
– Troublesome Truck & Paint (Model Number HBJ90): This is a gray and black train car with cargo consisting of gray paint cans and a yellow paint splatter on the side.
Both train cars feature faces on the front and are equipped with magnetic connectors to attach to other vehicles. The train cars measure approximately 3.6 inches long by 2.1 inches high. The model numbers (HBJ89 and HBJ90) are located on the bottom of the train cars.
The products were sold online at Amazon.com and other websites, as well as at Barnes & Noble and specialty stores nationwide. The retail period was from February 2022 through August 2023, with a retail price of approximately $17. The toys were manufactured in Indonesia.
3. Hazard Information
The hazard involves the small plastic piece that contains a high-powered magnet used to connect one train car to another. According to the recall notice, this plastic connector can detach or become loose. If the piece detaches, the small plastic component and the high-powered magnet inside it pose a choking hazard to young children. Additionally, if the magnet is swallowed, it presents a magnet ingestion hazard. The recall notice states that Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway has received one report of the plastic connector becoming loose and detaching from the product. No injuries have been reported in connection with this defect.
