Recall Information Record: BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders

1. Recall Summary
On December 28, 2023, BlendJet Inc., of Benicia, California, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a recall of approximately 4.8 million BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders. An additional 117,000 units were sold in Canada. The recall was initiated due to reports of the blenders overheating or catching fire and the blender blades breaking off during use.

2. Affected Products
The recall involves BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders sold in a variety of colors and designs. The blenders measure approximately 9.5 inches in height and 3 inches in width and weigh approximately 1.5 pounds. Serial numbers are printed on the bottom of the base along with the text “blendjet2” and “The Original Portable Blender.” Units subject to the recall are those where the first four digits of the serial number are between 5201 and 5542. Consumers can determine if their unit is included by using the “Is my BlendJet 2 Recalled?” tool located at www.blendjet.com/safetyandrecall. The blenders were sold at Costco, Walmart, Target, and other stores nationwide, as well as online at BlendJet.com, from October 2020 through November 2023, with a retail price between $50 and $75. The products were manufactured in China.

3. Hazard Information
According to the recall notice, the recalled blenders can overheat or catch fire, and the blender blades can break off while in use. These conditions pose fire and laceration hazards to consumers. The firm has received approximately 329 reports of the blades breaking while in use, and an additional 17 reports of overheating or fires resulting in property damage claims of approximately $150,000. The firm has received about 49 reports of minor burns and one report of a laceration injury.

4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled blenders. To receive a free replacement base unit, consumers must remove and cut the rubber seal from the base of their recalled blender into three or more pieces. Then, they must upload or email a photo showing the serial number on the bottom of the unit and its rubber seal in pieces to BlendJet. The photo can be submitted at www.blendjet.com/safetyandrecall or via email to safety@blendjet.com. Consumers can identify whether their unit is part of the recall by entering the serial number into the “Is my BlendJet 2 Recalled?” tool at www.blendjet.com/safetyandrecall.

5. Official Remedy
The official remedy is a free replacement of the BlendJet 2 base unit. Consumers are not required to return the entire blender; only the base unit is replaced. The replacement is provided after BlendJet receives and verifies the photo of the serial number and the cut rubber seal.
