1. Recall Summary
On April 11, 2024, Yoto Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a recall of Yoto Mini speakers. The recall notice was published under CPSC Recall Number 24190. The recall involves approximately 251,165 units sold in the United States and an additional 18,932 units sold in Canada. The product is a portable, connected, screen-free speaker intended for children ages three to twelve. The speaker is operated using Yoto cards and is designed to play audiobooks, music, radio, and podcasts. The recalled units were sold online at us.yotoplay.com, Amazon.com, Target.com, and maisonette.com, as well as in toy and gift stores nationwide from November 2021 through April 2024 for about $70.

2. Affected Products
The recalled product is the Yoto Mini speaker. The speakers are pale gray with orange tactile controls and a pixel display. The model name “Yoto Mini,” SKU PRPLXX00860, and the serial number are located on the base of the product. The recalled Yoto Mini was sold with a charging cable included, but no adapter or charger. The product was manufactured in China. The importer is Yoto Inc., of New York. No specific model numbers, UPCs, or additional product identifiers beyond the SKU and serial number are provided in the recall notice.

3. Hazard Information
The hazard identified in the recall notice is that the speaker’s lithium-ion battery can overheat and catch fire, posing burn and fire hazards to consumers. As of the recall date, Yoto has received six reports from U.S. consumers and one report from a UK consumer of the speaker overheating or melting. No injuries have been reported in connection with these incidents.

4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled speakers, take them away from children, and contact Yoto to receive a free replacement smart charging cable. The recall notice instructs consumers to send a photograph of the old cable cut through the middle to receive a new replacement cord. No other consumer actions, such as returning the product or disposing of it, are specified in the recall notice.

5. Official Remedy
The official remedy offered by Yoto is a repair: consumers will receive a free replacement smart charging cable. The remedy does not include a refund, replacement of the entire speaker, or any other compensation. The recall notice states that consumers must cut the old charging cable through the middle and provide a photograph of the cut cable to Yoto in order to receive the new cord.
