Academy Sports + Outdoors, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has issued a recall for Redfield 12-Gun and 18-Gun Fireproof Safes. The recall was initiated due to a mechanical failure in the internal locking plates. The affected safes were sold at Academy Sports + Outdoors stores and online at academy.com from February 2024 through August 2024. The safes were manufactured in Vietnam. Approximately 6,100 units are included in this recall.

The recall involves the following models of Redfield Fireproof Safes:
– Redfield 12-Gun Fireproof Safe: Model number 179498.
– Redfield 18-Gun Fireproof Safe: Model number 179499.

The safes are dark gray steel and are used to store firearms and valuables. The word “Redfield” is printed on the front door above the number pad. The model name and serial number are located on a red label at the bottom right corner of the safe door. The 12-gun safe measures 53 inches high by 15 inches wide by 16 inches deep. The 18-gun safe measures 55 inches high by 18 inches wide by 18 inches deep.
