Approximately 2,850 units were sold in the United States, and an additional 550 units were sold in Canada. The bicycles were sold at Santa Cruz dealers nationwide from October 2021 through January 2025.

2. Affected Products
The recalled product is the Santa Cruz Bicycles Heckler 9 electric bicycle. The bicycle features a 720W lithium-ion battery housed inside a black case under the frame. “SANTA CRUZ” is printed on the sides of the downtube of the bicycle frame. “Heckler” is printed on the top tube of the frame and on the inside of the left chainstay. The bicycles were sold in various colors, including Gloss Avocado Green and Maritime Gray. The model number is not specified in the recall notice. The bicycles were sold at retail prices ranging from $8,750 to $13,900.

3. Hazard Information
The recalled electric bicycle’s lithium-ion battery can overheat, posing a fire hazard. The firm has received three reports of fires, including some property damage. No injuries have been reported.

4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled electric bicycles. They must disconnect the battery from the bike and charger. If the battery is involved in this recall, consumers will be required to write “Recalled” on the involved affected battery and upload a photograph of it to the same website. 5. Official Remedy
The official remedy is a free replacement battery. Consumers who determine their bicycle is affected and complete the registration and photograph upload process will receive a free replacement battery sent to them.
