1. Recall Summary
This recall involves Santa Cruz Bicycles Heckler 9 electric bicycles equipped with a 720W lithium-ion battery. The recall was announced on May 1, 2025, by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) under Recall Number 25244. The distributor, Santa Cruz Bicycles LLC, of Santa Cruz, California, is coordinating the recall. Approximately 2,850 units were sold in the United States, and an additional 550 units were sold in Canada. The bicycles were sold at Santa Cruz dealers nationwide from October 2021 through January 2025.

The recalled product is the Santa Cruz Bicycles Heckler 9 electric bicycle. The bicycle features a 720W lithium-ion battery housed inside a black case under the frame. “SANTA CRUZ” is printed on the sides of the downtube of the bicycle frame. “Heckler” is printed on the top tube of the frame and on the inside of the left chainstay. The bicycles were sold in various colors, including Gloss Avocado Green and Maritime Gray. The model number is not specified in the recall notice. The bicycles were sold at retail prices ranging from $8,750 to $13,900.
3. Hazard Information
