Recall Information Record: Cranach Hardware Plastic Tip Restraint Kits
1. Recall Summary
On October 23, 2025, Cranach Hardware, of China, initiated a recall of approximately 55,170 units of its plastic tip restraint kits (also referred to as furniture straps). The recall was issued due to a tip-over hazard. The recalled product is designed to secure furniture to walls. The recall notice states that the plastic components in the brackets/mounts and the cable zip tie can break or degrade over time. This failure could lead to furniture tipping over if a consumer interacts with furniture that was secured by the recalled product. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) testing revealed that the recalled plastic tip restraints failed to meet the requirements of ASTM F3096-23, the industry standard for tip restraints. The recall notice was published on October 23, 2025, and is identified by Recall Number 26038.
2. Affected Products
The recalled product is the Cranach Hardware Plastic Tip Restraint Kit. The kit contains two white plastic brackets/mounts (one for connection to furniture and the other for connection to the wall), a white plastic cable zip tie, two different pairs of screws (one longer than the other), and two drywall anchors. The product was sold exclusively on Amazon beginning in September 2019, for a price range of $6 to $30, depending on the number of units in a package. The specific model number or type of the product is not specified in the recall notice.
3. Hazard Information
The recalled plastic tip restraint kits can break or degrade, posing tip-over and entrapment hazards. The recall notice states that this can result in serious injuries or death to children or elderly consumers interacting with furniture that is secured to the wall with the defective plastic tip restraints. CPSC is aware of at least 115 incidents where consumers reported that the defective plastic tip restraint kits broke, including six reported tip-over incidents. No injuries have been reported in connection with these incidents.
4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should stop using Cranach Hardware plastic tip restraints immediately. While waiting for a replacement, consumers should keep children away from any furniture that was secured using the recalled product. To receive a remedy, consumers must contact Cranach Hardware. The recall notice specifies that consumers will need to provide photographic evidence of destruction or disposal of the recalled product to receive a replacement.
5. Official Remedy
The official remedy offered by Cranach Hardware is a free replacement tip restraint kit made of stainless steel. This is a replacement remedy, not a refund. Consumers must provide photographic evidence showing that the recalled plastic tip restraint kit has been destroyed or disposed of in order to receive the free stainless steel replacement kit.
