1. Recall Summary
This recall involves two models of IKEA VARMFRONT Power Banks. The recall was published on August 15, 2024, by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) under Recall Number 24344. The recall is due to a fire hazard associated with the power banks. Approximately 1,600 units were sold in the United States, and an additional 1,690 units were sold in Canada. The products were manufactured in China.
2. Affected Products
The recalled products are IKEA VARMFRONT Power Banks in blue. Two specific models are included in this recall:
– Model E2037: This power bank has one USB-A port and one USB-C port. It measures approximately four inches long and two inches wide. It has one of the following date codes (YYWW format): 2318, 2319, or 2322.
– Model E2038: This power bank has two USB-A ports and one USB-C port. It measures approximately four inches long and three inches wide. It has one of the following date codes (YYWW format): 2313, 2316, 2318, or 2319.
The model number is listed at the top of the back side of the power banks. The date code is printed on the bottom of the back side of the power banks. The products were sold at IKEA stores nationwide and online at www.IKEA.com from July 2023 through March 2024, with a price range between $17 and $30.
3. Hazard Information
The power banks can overheat, posing a fire hazard. IKEA has received three incident reports globally. No injuries have been reported. Additionally, no incidents or injuries have been reported in the United States.
4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled power banks. Consumers should return the recalled power banks to any IKEA store. If a consumer is unable to return the product to a store, they should contact IKEA for instructions on how to dispose of the VARMFRONT Power Bank to receive a full refund. Proof of purchase (receipt) is not required to receive a full refund.
5. Official Remedy
The official remedy is a free replacement product or a full refund. Consumers may choose either option. The refund does not require proof of purchase.
