Recall Information Record
Database Entry ID: 10050
Date of Record: 2024-09-12
1. Recall Summary
This recall involves Intellio Toys’ Bright Builder fort kits. The recall was announced on September 12, 2024, under Recall Number 24363. The action is being taken due to a violation of federal regulations for battery-operated toys, specifically concerning the flashlights included with the kits. The flashlights contain button cell batteries in a compartment that can be easily opened without requiring the use of a common household tool. The recall includes approximately 12,400 units. The products were manufactured in China.
2. Affected Products
The recalled products are Intellio Toys’ Bright Builder fort kits, models FKL-BG, FKL-BR, L-5BG, and L-5BR. These are 100-piece fort-building kits available in green and blue, or red and blue color combinations. Each kit contains 45 long sticks, 25 short sticks, 15 connecting tubes, 25 multilink balls, and a pack of five flashlights with button cell batteries. The flashlights were sold as part of the kit and individually as an add-on component. Only Bright Builder fort kits that include the flashlights are part of this recall. The product name “Bright Builder” is printed on the front of the kit box, and “Intellio Toys” is printed on the side panel. The model number is located on the bottom right corner of the back of the box. The products were sold at Amazon.com and Intelliotoys.com from December 2022 through August 2024. The kits were sold for between $38 and $49, and the flashlight-only add-on was sold for between $14 and $15.
3. Hazard Information
The flashlight on the recalled kits violates the mandatory federal battery-operated toy regulation. The flashlights contain button cell batteries in a compartment that can be easily opened without requiring the use of a common household tool. When button cell batteries are swallowed, the ingested batteries can cause serious injuries, internal chemical burns, and death, posing an ingestion hazard. Intellio Toys has received one report of the batteries coming out of the flashlight while handling it. No injuries have been reported.
4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the flashlights in the recalled fort kits. The flashlights should be kept away from children. Consumers can continue to use the fort kits without the flashlights. Button cell batteries are hazardous. Batteries should be disposed of or recycled by following local procedures for hazardous household waste. Consumers should contact Intellio Toys for instructions on how to receive a refund. Amazon and Intellio Toys are contacting all known purchasers directly.
5. Official Remedy
The official remedy is a refund. Consumers who contact Intellio Toys will receive instructions on how to obtain a refund between $10 and $15, depending on the model.
