1. Recall Summary
Makita U.S.A., Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), is conducting a recall of Makita Professional Cordless Grease Guns and Makita Grease Gun Hoses. The recall involves approximately 62,927 units in the United States. The products were sold at hardware and home improvement stores nationwide and on various websites from June 2020 through January 2025. The recalled products were manufactured in China.

2. Affected Products
The recall includes the following Makita Professional Cordless Grease Gun models: XPG01S1, XPG01SR1, and XPG01Z. All affected models have spring ends. The model number is located on the manufacturer label on the right side of the grease guns. The serial number is located on the battery mounting port on the grease guns. The following serial number ranges are included in the recall:
– Grease Gun XPG01Z: Serial numbers from 1624 to 2163, 3030 to 5088, 20459 to 22582, 51237 to 23713, 58316 to 59555, 60012 to 69623, 72766 to 73595, 80926 to 86281, 86612 to 89078, 91449 to 94928, 94999 to 106439, 112804 to 115923.
– Grease Gun XPG01SR1: Serial numbers from 02164 to 02813, 22583 to 23113, 50618 to 51236, 69984 to 71983, 86282 to 86461, 86752 to 87751, 106440 to 108946, 109507 to 109919.
– Grease Gun XPG01S1: Serial numbers from 0137895 to 0143614, 163962 to 164761, 172741 to 175458.

The recall also includes the following Makita Grease Gun Hose models: 191A79-9, 191A80-4, 191W58-9, and 191W59-7. All affected hoses have spring ends. The recalled products were sold for between $60 and $390.

3. Hazard Information
The flexible grease gun hose can develop a hole, allowing grease to be ejected while using the grease gun. This poses a laceration hazard. The firm has received five reports of incidents worldwide of the grease gun hose failing, including five laceration injuries. All five incidents were reported outside the United States.

4. Consumer Action Required
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Makita Cordless Grease Guns and Makita Grease Gun Hoses. Consumers should contact Makita for a free replacement hose.

5. Official Remedy
The official remedy is a free replacement hose. Consumers are instructed to contact Makita to arrange for the replacement.
