Recall Summary
Kramer Laboratories, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has issued a recall for Safetussin Max Strength Multi-Symptom Cough, Cold and Flu 24-count caplet blister packs. The recall was announced on April 10, 2025, under Recall Number 25223. The product is an over-the-counter cold medicine that contains acetaminophen. The recall is being conducted because the packaging violates the federal regulation for child-resistant packaging under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.

Affected Products
The recalled product is Safetussin Max Strength Multi-Symptom Cough, Cold and Flu 24-count caplet blister packs. The blister packs are labeled with “Safetussin,” “Multi-Symptom,” “Cough, Cold & Flu,” and “Safe for adults with High Blood Pressure, Diabetes.” The product is sold in a blue, orange, and red cardboard box with the drug facts label on the back. Approximately 14,250 units are affected. The recalled units were sold at HEB, Harris-Teeter, and other regional grocery stores and independently owned pharmacies nationwide from July 2024 through March 2025 for about $11. The product was manufactured in India and distributed by Kramer Laboratories, of Bridgewater, New Jersey (a subsidiary of Arcadia Consumer Healthcare, of Bridgewater, New Jersey).

Hazard Information
The hazard identified in the recall notice is that the packaging of the Safetussin blister packs is not child-resistant. Specifically, a tablet can be pushed through the foil of the blister pack. Because the product contains acetaminophen, the Poison Prevention Packaging Act requires child-resistant packaging. The lack of such packaging poses a risk of poisoning if the contents are swallowed by young children. No injuries have been reported to date.

Consumers are instructed to immediately secure the recalled product out of the sight and reach of children. Consumers should then contact Kramer Laboratories for information on how to return or dispose of the product.
