1. Recall Summary

On November 3, 2022, Reckitt (RB Manufacturing LLC), of Parsippany, New Jersey, initiated a voluntary recall of approximately 67,000 units of AirWick Fresh New Day aerosol air fresheners. The recall was issued due to a manufacturing defect involving a missing corrosion inhibitor in a single batch of the product. This defect can lead to corrosion and rupture of the metal can, posing injury and laceration hazards, as well as leakage posing a risk of skin and eye irritation. The recall was published on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website.

2. Affected Products

The recall involves AirWick Fresh New Day aerosol air fresheners in 8-ounce aerosol cans. Two specific scents are affected:

– Fresh Linen scent: Blue and white can with a white cap and green Airwick logo. UPC: 0-62338-74734-7.
– Fresh Waters scent: Green and white can with a white cap and green Airwick logo. UPC: 0-62338-77002-4.

Affected units are identified by a specific batch code and date code printed on the bottom of the can:
– Batch code: B22077-NJ
– Date code: 18/03/22

The UPC is printed on the rear label, adjacent to the barcode. The products were sold at grocery stores, mass merchandisers, hardware stores, home improvement stores, drug stores, and other retail locations nationwide, including Dollar Tree, True Value, and Cumberland Farms. The products were sold between March 2022 and September 2022 for approximately $1.25.

3. Hazard Information

According to the recall notice, a single batch of the aerosol air fresheners is missing a corrosion inhibitor. This manufacturing defect can lead to corrosion and rupture of the metal can, resulting in the expulsion of the contents. This poses injury and laceration hazards. Additionally, corrosion of the container can result in leakage, which poses a risk of skin and eye irritation upon contact.

The firm, Reckitt, has received five incident reports related to this defect. These reports include two reports of the can leaking, two reports of the can rupturing, and one report of both the can leaking and rupturing. No injuries have been reported in connection with these incidents.

4. Consumer Action Required

Consumers who have purchased the recalled AirWick Fresh New Day aerosol air fresheners are instructed to take the following actions immediately:

1. Stop using the recalled air freshener immediately.
2. Wrap the product in several layers of paper.
3. Dispose of the wrapped product in accordance with state and local requirements.
4. Use caution to avoid skin and eye contact if the can appears to be leaking.

After disposing of the product, consumers should contact Reckitt to submit a photo of the recalled can, along with their contact information and written confirmation that they will dispose of the can, to receive a voucher for a free replacement.

The official remedy offered by Reckitt is a voucher for a free replacement Fresh New Day aerosol air freshener. To receive this voucher, consumers must contact Reckitt, provide a photo of the recalled can, their contact information, and written confirmation that they will dispose of the can.
